Dr. Carla Parra Escartín is the Director of Linguistic Services at Unbabel and her team is in charge of monitoring the quality of all Unbabel MT engines as well as of providing linguistic insights as to what are the most common errors observed and how to tackle them to improve the overall quality of MT output delivered to the Unbabel customers.

She has over 10 years of research experience in linguistic infrastructures, human factors in machine translation and multiword expressions and also has experience as a professional translator and project manager, both in-house and as a freelancer.

Throughout her career she has worked on various research projects, and her research has always focused on building bridges between humans and machine translation. Some of her most recent work has investigated the impact of machine translation in professional translation workflows, how machine translation can be used to assist in humanitarian crises and the ethical implications that this may have, and how machine translation can be used to help non-native speakers of English publish their research in English.
